On April 21, Florida-based death metal legends CANNIBAL CORPSE received their platinum plaques in Montreal, Quebec, Canada for the seven-plus-hour DVD set "Centuries of Torment" (which came out July 2008).
"Centuries of Torment" was certified platinum in Canada earlier this year just before the crushing release of the band's new album, "Evisceration Plague".
The DVD sold 2,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 8 on the Top Music Videos chart.
Bassist Alex Webster commented on the end of the Canadian dates as they come to a wrap: "Our recent Canadian tour was a total success, every show was packed and the crowds were full of energy. We really received a great response, which is something we've come to expect from our Canadian fans. We want to thank all of our Canadian fans for coming out to the gigs and making the tour so killer, and also for making 'Centuries of Torment' and 'Evisceration Plague' two of the most successful releases in our band's history."
In a 2008 interview with BLABBERMOUTH.NET, Webster stated about "Centuries of Torment", "We're thankful for all the good reviews, but pretty much all the praise should go to [director/producer] Denise Korycki. She basically did everything. She shot the footage, she edited it, and she was the one who was in charge of organizing it and making it into a coherent story. That had to be a pretty difficult job for her because there is a lot of ground to cover. We did not know how dedicated she was going to be to this and how much work that she was going to put into it. She really made it her full time job for several months and we've never really had anything like that."
CANNIBAL CORPSE will embark on the European Plague Tour in the fall. Direct support will come from DYING FETUS.
On the mainland, the package will be completed by EVOCATION and OBSCURA, while TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED and ANNOTATIONS OF AN AUTOPSY will support the bands in the U.K.
CANNIBAL CORPSE has confirmed its first Japanese tour in support of the band's new album, "Evisceration Plague". They will headline the Extreme the Dojo Vol. 22 tour with support from THE FACELESS and MISERY INDEX.
"Evisceration Plague" sold 9,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. This is more than 50 percent higher than the opening tally of the band's previous CD, "Kill" (2006), which landed at No. 170 after shifting more than 6,000 copies. In 1996, CANIBAL CORPSE's "Vile" premiered at No. 151, with more than 6,100 copies sold.
