Behemoth. One of Poland's most hailed Death Metal bands which only gets better and better upon each release. In 2004 with "Demigod", Behemoth introduced a whole new level of technical prowess and brutality into the world of Death Metal of which only Polish brothers Decapitated and Vader were able to compete and hold their own against. Sheer heaviness accompanied with inventive song structure lead the album to achieve rave reviews among critics and fans alike, and finally, in 2007, the band has released their best work to date; entitled "The Apostasy".
Without a doubt, this album has itself captured the spirit of Technical Death Metal in a way bands like Cannibal Corpse and Dying Fetus can only dream of. Front man Nergal and (session) guitarist Seth have an incredible talent for inventing heavy riffs while maintaining their melodic velocity to keep intact a steady beat. Take for example, "At the Left Hand Ov God". A simple song, structure-wise due to the fact the same guitar riff is used pretty much throughout, along with similar drum patterns which follow the infernal notes of Nergal and Seth's furious picking. Yet, this in my opinion is Behemoth's greatest written song by far and stands atop it's kin in comparison to the band's other hits such as "Slaves Shall Serve", or "Decade of Therion". On a side note, the drumming on this album is furious and is never a let down. Inferno has very quick limbs which move in unison with each other, creating a technical whirlwind of destruction; which of course, is a must in this genre.
In terms of workmanship, "The Apostasy" is Behemoth's greatest achievement to date, and with a new album on the horizon, one can only put on sun glasses, because the future is looking very bright.
